On February 5, Burbank Bob Hope Airport began operating an existing security lane to help frequent flyers get to their gates more quickly. Located at the Terminal A checkpoint, the “Experienced Travelers” lane is reserved for expert passengers during peak hours, typically between 6 and 7 a.m. each day. This lane is open to travelers enrolled in frequent flyer programs with Southwest Airlines, jetBlue Airways, and US Airways. It is not currently available in Terminal B.
The express lane was opened with cooperation from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in addition to the airlines. Airlines typically decide which passengers earn frequent flyer designations. For example, to be considered for Southwest’s A-List program, travelers must take more than 25 flights a year or earn a certain number of Rapid Rewards points; flyers with jetBlue’s True Blue program must accumulate at least 10,000 points; and US Airways’ Dividend Miles Preferred flyers must accumulate 25,000 points or 30 segments.
“We have a good ratio of customers in Burbank who qualify for the lane,” said Southwest Station Manager Rhonda Ramirez.
According to Victor Gill, Director of Public Affairs and Communications, the TSA has reported that wait times during the morning rush hour are approximately 13 minutes at the Terminal A security checkpoint and seven minutes in Terminal B. During non-peak hours, the average wait time in both terminals is five minutes.
Southwest Airlines Helps Son of Fallen Soldier Live His Dream
On January 25, the Honoring Our Fallen organization, which supports the families of fallen soldiers, partnered with Southwest Airlines to help make 12-year-old Kyle Bollar’s wish come true. Honoring Our Fallen, Southwest, and the Sacramento Kings came together to fly Bollar to Sacramento, where he sat courtside at a Kings basketball game. The flight departed from Burbank Bob Hope Airport, where Bollar was greeted by Southwest Airlines employees and newest Airport Authority Commissioner Jacque Robinson.
Bollar’s father, who was an avid Sacramento Kings basketball fan, was killed in action in Iraq ten years ago. His mother and a representative from Honoring Our Fallen accompanied Bollar on his trip to Sacramento.
