Approval of a mandatory nighttime curfew for Bob Hope Airport would change aviation activity in and around Burbank. While the current voluntary airline curfew and the mandatory Stage 2 curfew have reduced the number of nighttime flights at Bob Hope Airport, an FAA-approved curfew would end all air travel from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., with few exceptions. But exactly how would approval of a mandatory curfew affect nighttime travel? With passage of a mandatory curfew, the type of flights will remain the same:
Forecast of Nightly Flight Operations Eliminated with a Mandatory Curfew
Night operations allowed under a mandatory curfew are limited to delays for reasons beyond the operator's control. These flights would be permitted to operate between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., without penalty. These exceptions include police/fire, military and medical emergencies and aircraft in-flight emergencies. Aircraft delayed by weather, mechanical or air traffic would be allowed to take off/land during 10 – 11:00 p.m. grace period. |
